Novice Locals Wins Arthur Tournament
Submitted By mbroderick on Monday, March 7, 2016
The Novice Local team showed its unbelievable improvements on Sunday as the team travelled to Arthur and beat all-comers to win the tournament.

The Novice team had no idea what to expect as the tournament had 8 teams who had never played each other.  The Dundalk team seemed to be on the tough side of the draw beginning the tournament against a very accomplished Waterloo team.  This game went back and forth in the early stages with teams trading goals.  A couple of big saves midway through the game by Liam and a huge third period by high scoring Ryan, with six goals overall, helped the team to an 8-5 victory.
Now on the A/B side, the team was in tough as they were to face another tough team in Kitchener.  Kitchener had won a thrilling game against a very strong Chatsworth team, and had a number of fast skaters and a very tough defence.  The Dundalk Novices were a little slow out of the gate as players moved around and tried new positions, but after getting everyone more comfortable, Dundalk took control of the game with some exceptional positional hockey and by being the fastest to puck in every zone.  Clara, Cara and Logan continued to play their positions better than most novices and Aiden's first goal in a Dundalk uniform helped the Novices win the game 5-2 to get into the Tournament Championship game.
Another new team in the Championship game, Drayton, would provide another challenge for the Novices.  After two 8-4 wins, the Drayton team looked almost unbeatable.  The team came out flying early causing the Drayton team to become confused.  Stellar defense by Josh, Dustin, Nevyn and Logan, pushing the puck to the outside, ensuring that players could not get to the net and keeping the puck in the offensive zone are ways that the defense took control the game.  Offensively, Ryan, Cameron, Clara, Aiden, Cara and Kolby continued to play hard in the offensive zone, pass the puck well and always got to the front of the net.  McKenzie played her best game of the tournament, moving her feet and getting back to help out on defense and Matthew continued his goal scoring streak, netting an important one.  Finally, Cara, scored her first goal of the Novice season putting a big smile on her face.  Some huge saves at important times by Liam helped the team stay ahead and allowed the team to complete the win for the championship.
With the year coming to a close, and after some very difficult games in the A pool, it was a great day and highlighted the many successes this team has had and the many improvements that every player has shown.  Congratulations team.
