Novices Hit Playoffs On a High Note
Submitted By mbroderick on Monday, February 8, 2016

After a tough, hard fought twenty game schedule, the Dundalk Novices travelled to little known Grafton for a tournament, searching out new challenges to help get ready for the playoffs.

After winning nine regular season games against some very tough competitors, the Novice team received news that it would compete in league playoffs in the A division against tough opponents like Midland 1, Midland 2, Oro, Shelburne and Elmvale.  Before that, though, was a one day tournament in Grafton.  The team's first game against, Coldwater, would decide if the team would to the A/B side.  The team came out strong early but despite a strong goaltending performance, the team won 5-0 with goals scored by Ryan with three, Nevyn and Kolby.  This win guaranteed some tough competition for the other two games.  In game two, the team met a tough, chippy and grumpy Lindsay team.  The Novices held strong and played as hard as they could, taking a 3-2 game into the third period.  But two late goals for Lindsay sealed the game as the team lost 5-2.  This loss would take the team to the B Championship against a very good Oshawa team.  In the B final, gentleman play was the order as both teams played with respect for each other.   Early on, it was clear that this would be a game that would go down to the wire, with two evenly matched teams.  While still 0-0, affiliate goalie, Brian F made two huge stops on breakaways to keep them off the board.  This gave Kolby L the opportunity to take the game over.  Skating as fast as he has all season, Kolby had two end to end rushes scoring on both opportunities.  In the end it was a 3-0 win with a jubilant Novice team ready to take the pool at the hotel by storm.
Great fun was had at the tournament as regular players Kolby, Dustin, Cara, Nevyn, Aiden, McKenzie, Josh and Liam were joined by affiliates Ryan, Brian and Ashlynn to make this a great day.

As the novices head into playoffs, they will rely on the lessons learned in this tournament and welcome regular players Clara, Logan and Matthew back to the lineup.
Excellent season, great tournament, lets keep moving forward and do our best in the playoffs
