Comeback Victory Looks Good on Blue
Submitted By mbroderick on Saturday, January 26, 2013
The Meaford team had not lost a game this year coming into a big game against Dundalk Tyke Blue.  With two strong teams from Georgian Shores and two strong teams from Dundalk, the battles have only begun.

Dundalk Tyke Blue came out very flat early in the game, getting down 2-0 before the first period was half over.  In the second period, Blue began playing much better but could not get anything past a very strong Meaford goalie.  At 5:53 in the 2nd period, Dante Hannivan finally broke the goose egg from a nice three way passing play between Wyatt Goheen and Aidan Broderick.  For the rest of the 2nd, Blue took it to Meaford peppering them with shots and getting five or six excellent scoring chances, which culminated in a huge goal by Jimmy Stevens from Dante Hannivan and Amber Rice.  Taking what he has learned in practices, Stevens went to the net without the puck, but it arrived on his stick and he made no mistake, tying the game.
In the third, Tyke Blue continued to take it to Meaford, earning many great scoring chances but again, the Meaford goalie continued to stand on his head.  Halfway through the third period, Aidan McKibbon was involved in a huge race to the puck with a very speedy Meaford player, winning the race and firing the game winning goal home.
This was truly another team effort as Quentin Welsh played a tremendous game on forward, showing his versatility as did Wyatt.  Chase Tester played his best game of the year, playing on a smaller pair of skates, he was involved in a number of steals that helped the team.  Wylie Ferris, Joshua Broderick and Brody Verbeek continue to show their stellar play as first year tykes, showing that the future is bright for Dundalk Tyke Hockey.  Finally, after a shaky start, Keegan MacPherson stood tall, making some big saves to keep Blue in the game until they could find their goal scoring touch.
There were many deserving recipients of the MVP/Hardest worker this game but Jimmy Stevens outshone all with his play around the net and key goal for the team.
Great job Dundalk Tyke Blue, off to the Paisley Tournament next Saturday.
